How do Emergency Shower compare to a House Shower?

 

Emergency showers complying with the ANSI Z358.1 standard deliver a minimum of 75.7L/min (Sec. 4.1.2, 4.1.4, 7.1).

The average home shower is designed to deliver 20L/min.

Therefore, emergency showers deliver over 3 times more water per minute than a normal house shower.

 

Because emergency showers deliver so much water per minute, the shower head must be much larger and stronger than a house shower’s shower head.

The shower head must be large enough to be able withstand water pressure between 0.2MPaG-0.6MPaG approx.

At the same time the shower head must deliver a soft water flow in order to not injury the shower user.

To make the desired soft delivery possible a baffle plate is inserted on the shower head.

 

The emergency showers shower head height above the surface is much higher than that of a house shower. The emergency shower’s shower head must be 208.3 cm-243.8 cm above the surface floor of the user. (sec. 4.1.3, 7.1)
